Energy Challenges in the Knowledge Based Economy

Former Indian President and internationally well-known scientist Dr. Abdul Kalam was programmed to arrive in Sri Lanka last night to deliver the keynote address at the investiture of the two-day international symposium organized by the Power and Energy Ministry. The investiture of the symposium entitled ‘Energy Challenges in the Knowledge Based Economy’ will be held at the Colombo Hilton this afternoon.

The Ministry of Power and Energy, having adopted a policy framework for planning the development of the energy sector of Sri Lanka recently, now envisages organizing the scientific knowledge base for plan implementation. An international Symposium will provide the forum for local and invited foreign experts in the field to discuss debate and share innovative knowledge relevant to the challenges that the nation is facing in the evolving economy. The strategic plan expects energy for all in affordable manner with minimum dependence on external sources by 2025.
