Sri Lanka to study Belarusian cattle-breeding practices

NEW DELHI, 27 May (BelTA) – Sri Lanka is interested in studying Belarus’ cattle-breeding and crop production practices, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to India with concurrent accreditation to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Vitaly Prima told BelTA.

“The recent visit of the Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Igor Brylo to Sri Lanka included a presentation of Belarus’ potential in the development of livestock breeding complexes and commercial dairy farms. It aroused a big interest among the people of Sri Lanka. The country has serious plans in developing its own base of cattle-breeding and dairy production. A number of Sri Lankan companies are taking part in the development of the corresponding joint project. They are currently discussing cooperation modality and technical specifications,” the diplomat explained.

It is planned that the talks on cooperation between Belarus and Sri Lanka in the agricultural sector will be continued in Minsk in the near future. A delegation of Sri Lanka is expected to visit the international exhibition Belagro 2015 which is due in the Belarusian capital in June, the Ambassador stressed.

“Besides, experts from Belarus and Sri Lanka are also discussing the possibility to implement other big projects that will demonstrate our mutual potential. Among them is the joint production of agricultural equipment and cooperation in the petrochemistry,” Vitaly Prima added.

Today Belarus’ main exports to Sri Lanka include potash fertilizers, paper products, and control equipment. Belarus imports tea and clothes from Sri Lanka.
