Basic Qualifications

The Sri Lankan education system contains 13 years of study, culminating in the O-Level examinations in the 11th year and A-Level examinations in the 13th, similar to the UK. These local examinations are offered in English, Sinhala and Tamil.
International schools and private institutes allow students to sit for international qualification exams, such as GCE, IB and SATs, which are mostly undertaken by students who wish to pursue their higher education abroad.
Students who have already decided on their preferred field of study can choose to obtain specialized diplomas, such as the Edexcel HND, at certain institutes that will qualify them to enter universities.
