Studying Hospitality and Tourism

Being a tourist destination, Sri Lanka has a booming tourism industry, and so there is no shortage of institutions offering training and qualifications in this field. This also means that students have the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience during their course of study. The multicultural diversity in Sri Lanka provides the added experience of a truly international perspective.
This sector has a range of levels and fields of training, from hotel management to hospitality training and culinary arts. Students are not required to have followed a particular set of subjects at GCE A-Level, although in most cases, Commerce would be the preferred stream. Many students choose to undergo vocational training to quickly gain the skills required to begin working in the tourism field, although degree-awarding institutes also typically include a year of work experience. Combining a qualification in this field with a diverse set of language skills would be a major benefit to anyone looking to advance in the industry.
