Accommodation

There are several options for students when it comes to accommodation in Sri Lanka.
Accommodation provided by the university – The institution you choose may provide dorms or similar accommodation facilities, where students will have a room and share common facilities with the other students. This is generally very cost effective and also helps give you the right study environment. Most students choose to stay in these residence halls during their first year of college to help them settle in and grow accustomed to the lifestyle.
Private accommodation – Opting for private accommodation is generally less expensive in Sri Lanka when compared to other countries like Australia and the UK. If your campus is located in the heart of a city, you can choose to rent a nearby apartment with other students. A much cheaper option would be to rent a room from a nearby residence, commonly advertised as ‘boarding rooms’. In such places, your landlord is also likely to include daily home-cooked meals as part of your rent.
Finding the right accommodation is important, so here are a few things to keep in mind when you’re looking:
– How long does it take to travel from the accommodation to the campus?
– Is the area safe?
– Is the place easily reachable by public transport?
– Do they offer single or shared accommodation?
– Is the environment calm enough for studying and resting?
– What is included in the fixed rental (such as food, electricity, etc.) and are there additional costs?
