Planning your career path

When you choose the career path you are going to follow, you will need to choose carefully! Nobody wants to be in a career that they are not passionate about, so the period right after you graduate is very important as it allows you to decide on your direction.

You could speak to a career counselor or even your lecturers to figure out where your key strengths and interests lie so you can pick a career that you will be effective in and passionate about. Be aware that your degree does not necessarily define your career path; there are engineers that have gone into business and mathematics majors that have become artists.

Another route would be to start your own business or work freelance. While this is seen as a somewhat risky option for many people, you can make this work for you if you have the skills and dedication. You may not have a fixed salary, and in some cases you may run at a loss, but if you persist, there is a chance that your reputation will build and your solo career will really take off.
