Institute of Mental Health

Overview

The Institute of Mental Health (IMH) in Sri Lanka was created as a registered private entity in August 2007 by Dr. Romesh C. P. Jayasinghe FRSPH(UK), an internationally endorsed and acclaimed educator/trainer and psychotherapist who now counts over 13 years of experience in the field of professional and higher education and training in Sri Lanka.

The IMH was established with the primary aim of designing and conducting mental health and psychological counselling, and psychology related education and study courses and other related training programmes such as seminars and workshops for individuals, schools, groups, corporations and the public.

As a secondary aim, the IMH also conducts confidential and personalised individual and group counselling and psychotherapy sessions to persons (teens, adults, couples, elders) who are experiencing various kinds of emotional and psychological problems and distress. In this regard, the IMH aims to promote positive mental health for all members of the society irrespective of their unique differences and individual life circumstances.

We provide programs for parents, teachers and others who work with children to assist them to understand how they can foster the knowledge and skills for good mental health throughout life.

We also undertake and conduct programs to reduce the stigma associated with mental illnesses to encourage individuals to seek professional and medical help if and when they experience social or emotional distress.

Finally, we provide programs for organisations to assist them to promote positive mental health in the workplace and to reduce the impact that mental illnesses and negative job and corporate stress have on their workforce.

At the present time, the IMH conducts all its educational and training programs, and individual and group psychotherapy sessions only in the English medium in Colombo – 03, Sri Lanka.
