Institute of Hairdressers & Beauticians

Overview

Vision

To be the most recognized hairdressing and beauty therapy certification in the world.

Mission

Give an opportunity for everyone in the hair & beauty field to obtain a professional qualification in their own language by providing a relevant complete theory and practical knowledge recognized anywhere in the world.

Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy are two of the fasted growing professions in the world, thanks to the personal care industry being number one globally.

Understanding this fact the Ministry of Finance of the Government of Sri Lanka has lent considerable effort to further accentuate the hair & beauty industry, acknowledging the said industry's economic contribution to the country.

The Skills Standards education regarding Hairdressing & Beauty therapy is not streamlined save for a few quality education centers. The majority of students are not given a training standard suitable for employment in recognized local or foreign salons. This is evident in the barbering sector where thousands of talented young men work with no recognition or qualification.

IHB has taken steps to fulfill this need. Armed with complete guidance and support from City & Guilds, IHB is a nonprofit making organization, dedicated to set Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy and Barbering standards on par with International IVQ, Pivot Point, OMC and British NVQ standards. IHB responsibilities are to update and maintain Skills Standards through the preparation of curriculum, setting & conducting theory and practical exams in English and other local languages, issuing certifications and conducting 'train the trainer' programmes.
