SLTTI

It was in the year 1979 that the television industry had its toehold in our nation. This heralded the dawn of a new era where radical transformations took place in how the public of our nation were entertained, educated, and informed. With the liberalization of the television industry in the mid 90’s, many private television stations spawned.

These changes demanded the need for punctilious television professionals who could uphold television standards and ethics to the highest degree.

The birth of SLTTI was a result of this. Our institute was founded in October 1984 with the contributions and collaboration from three organizations namely Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) of Bonn, Federal Republic of Germany, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), and Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI).

The vision of SLTTI at that time was to evolve as an independent national educational and training centre devoting much of its time on Asian regional and international training activities.

As the television industry evolved so did SLTTI. The institution which was run by the SLFI became an autonomous entity under the Ministry of Mass Media and Information on 14th of November 2011. The solid foundation upon which the institute was built gave the necessary latitude to be agile and respond positively to changing training needs.

SLTTI has a complete state of the art recording studio with cutting edge technology. This studio fulfills the internal training requirements as well as the recording needs of external bodies.

Plans are afoot to re-launch the institute as the Sri Lanka Media Training Institute with wider scope. Our institute is equipped with facilities in par with international standards to provide professional training to participants.

In conclusion, we would do our utmost to serve as the premier media training institute of the nation by producing theoretically sound yet practical media professionals in an ever-changing media landscape who could make our nation proud in both domestic and international platforms.
