Human Resource practitioners are responsible for shaping and developing Human Resource Management in an organization, which is pivotal not only for organizational success, but for the overall development of the nation. From its humble beginnings in 1959, the Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (IPM) has developed to being the leading Human Resource authority in Sri Lanka, focusingon proactivelymeeting the needs of the HR practitioner.Through the years, IPM has adapted to the many changes and developments in Human Resource Management, remainingcommitted to upholding the highest standards in the profession.

The Institute is constantly working on maintaining and raising the professional standards in Human Resources Management and the development of the Human Resources Management profession, which is achieved through conducting professional examinations, seminars and workshops, conferences, research studies and providing HR consultancy.

In addition to catering to needs of the Membership, IPM conducts a wide range of professional courses which include the prestigious National Diploma in Human Resource Management,now upgradedas the Professional Qualification in Human Resource Management, which is geared to train quality HR professionals required by the country.

The institute is governed by an elected Council headed by the President. Under the direction of the Council, the functions and activities of the institute are performed by the respective standing committees,the Secretariat and the Business School which are manned by permanent staff.

IPM Sri Lanka is a member of the Organization of Professional Associations in Sri Lanka, as well as a member of the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management through which the Institute is affiliated to the World Federation on Personnel Management Associations (WFPMA).
