Unique features about the pathway programme at Royal Institute of Colombo

The Deakin University Pathway programme conducted by Royal Institute of Colombo (RIC) enables students to study for degrees in the field of Engineering, IT, Science and Biomedical Science initially at RIC, and then transfer to Deakin University. This enables a student to complete a Deakin University degree at a reasonably reduced cost than otherwise. This flexibility is a unique feature of the Deakin University Pathway Programme. The lecture panel comprises of Professors and PhD Holders drawn from the industry and academia. Further, students who are enrolled for the pathway programme receive the same degree awarded to students at Deakin

Areas of Specialization

Majors: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotic Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Undergraduates registering for the Engineering degree will be at RIC for the first two years of study after which they will transfer to the Deakin University, Australia for the final two years. The final two years in Deakin will give students more exposure to professional engineering practices while the former two years in Sri Lanka will give more focus to the theoretical and academic knowledge of the discipline. In the final year, students may work as interns in industries; an opportunity which will undoubtedly enhance the graduates’ capacity to find employment in Australia. Since Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering occupations are on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL), students will be gaining points which will contribute towards obtaining permanent residency in Australia.

Deakin University Engineering degrees are aimed at creating employable graduates who can fulfill the needs of the industry. Industry Based Learning (IBL) involves working full or part time in industry as part of your degree program and plays a valuable role in preparing for graduate employment.
